PROGRAM DETAILS

At Dyslexia Unlearned we use a multi-sensory approach, which address a picture thinker's modality for learning.  It includes the use of sight, sound and touch as learning modalities.  The tools used in a program are as follows:

Sensory Alignment  teaches the dyslexic student how to recognize and control the mental state that leads to distorted and confused perceptions of letters, words and numerals. By way of a simple mental technique, the student learns to turn off the thought processes that cause misperceptions. Instead, they are able to restore their minds to a relaxed and focused state, suitable for reading and other studies. Once Sensory Alignment is learned, the student is ready to build the conceptual skills that will allow them to overcome problems stemming from dyslexia.

Word Mastery gives the dyslexic student the ability to think with symbols and words, so they can learn to read easily and with full comprehension. Using clay, a student first works with the alphabet, numerals, and punctuation marks to make sure that they have an accurate perception and understanding of these symbols. The student then uses the clay to model the trigger words--the short abstract words, frequently encountered in reading, such as and, the, to, or it. These words cause problem when the dyslexic student cannot form a mental picture to go along with them. Through Word Mastery, the student makes a three-dimensional clay model of the meaning of each word, together with a model of the letters of the word. With this approach, learning is permanent.

The dyslexia program is 30 hours, usually done over a 5 day period. Included in the 30 hour program is 3 hours of support training for in-home follow up. In addition we provide up to 3 visits for program review as needed.

If the parent does not wish to provide the trigger word mastery training after the program has been completed, that can be arranged by Dyslexia Unlearned at an additional cost.
