Reading Correction Program
The Dyslexia Unlearned Reading Program is a one week program (typically Monday through Friday, 9 to 4) that centers totally on the student. The approach is one-on-one and tailored to each student’s specific needs. It is respectful to the student and is presented in a stress free center that teaches the student to utilize his or her gifts.
Students that have difficulty learning phonics are often in the 15-20% of the population that thinks in pictures. Often they are very intelligent, but may have difficulty expressing their thoughts in words. Because they are taught reading in a manner that is not conducive to their learning style as picture thinkers, dyslexia forms and reading is stunted. Often they fall behind their peers and never catch up even with extensive outside help.
When students are still struggling with reading, writing or math by the third grade this often indicates dyslexia has formed. We teach the student to resolve these issues with clay. They are given the tools and techniques appropriate for a picture-thinker. The student learns how to:
- enter, store, and retrieve information from memory
- strengthen the interaction between left and right hemispheres of the brain
- balance the body
- attain the ability to easily focus on the reading at hand
- control their own energy levels and be appropriate in classroom settings or wherever they are (ADD and ADHD)
- indentify punctuation
- use a dictionary
Follow-up after the program includes:
- 3 reviews as needed
- training for parents or support person on the techniques used for post program follow-up
- clay modeling of the sight words performed with student by guardian or support person.
Pre and post assessments measure growth during the one week program. Average growth in one week is a two year gain in reading levels.
This reading correction program is the pre-requisite for the Math Correction Program.
